Hello and welcome to the personal webspace of Matt Tucker!
I am into the fourth year of my Computer Science course at the University of Southampton. I achieved a first class degree over the first three years, however I am studying for the MEng Masters course and so will only graduate in July 2013. I've thoroughly enjoyed my university experience so far, as well as learning the odd thing or two!
Here you will find out a bit about me, what I've done, what I'm currently working on and hoping to achieve in the near future. Any questions, feel free to contact me. Thanks for taking a look!
I am originally from Croxley Green, Hertfordshire, and went to Rickmansworth School where I studied Computing, Maths and Further Maths to A-Level, obtaining grade A in each of these.
It was during my A-Level in Computing that I got into programming and was instantly fascinated by the concept of it all and got hooked coding almost immediately! This led to me choosing to study Computer Science at university. I hope to be able to make a career in this area or in web development which I have recently started to get into. Currently, I am looking for a graduate job in software engineering or web development to start in the summer of 2013.
I completed an eleven week summer placement between July-September 2012 at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute near Cambridge on the Rfam project. I coded an iterative pipeline in Perl which is now being used by Rfam and will be in their next release, as well as plans to have my pipeline featured in a couple of scientific papers in the near future.
Other than programming, my other major passion is football statistics and data, something I have taken a great interest in from an early age. I have created a complex program to help store a lot of data I regularly record. This has been the inspiration for the third year project I completed for my degree.
